University of Florida Health at Alachua General Hospital Renovations

Ajax Building Corporation was selected by Shands at Alachua General Hospital to perform mechanical renovations to the 3rd through 6th floors.  This included replacing air-handling units that were fed from the fourth floor. Each floor was carefully scheduled to take each unit off-line and a new unit installed to allow as little interruption as possible to floor occupancy. Each unit required new mechanical room renovations, ductwork and controls. This portion of the project was completed in June of 1999.

For the Fourth Floor Renovation, Ajax began with the removal of asbestos contaminated material and demolition. Demolition procedures were carefully scheduled as to not to disturb the Intensive Care Unit a floor below. After completion of the demolition, the new design was implemented.  This included casework, wood plank vinyl flooring and quarry tile bathroom floors in all patient rooms. A large kitchen and living area with couches and TV provides comfort to families.

The Lobby Renovation project consisted of interior demolition and reconstruction. Ajax installed new wall finishes, ceiling grid, tile and new HVAC diffusers piped to the existing duct. A new Information Station was constructed with round drywall columns and laminate casework with an opaque glass wall backdrop. The same type of wall was used as a room divider on the lobby floor and a new coffee bar was constructed to match the style of the Information Station.
