Maclay School Center for Innovation and Student Services

Maclay School is PreK-12 college preparatory school and is in the process of introducing a transformative new educational iTHINK Research Center on its campus.  iTHINK is defined as going beyond STEM and STEAM through a “transformative initiative catapulting our Classrooms, Curriculum, and Campus through hands-on, experiential learning, K-12 programming, and state-of-the-art science labs and services to prepare our students for a world we haven’t even imagined yet.”

What makes this project unique is that the Research Center is being fabricated from shipping containers.  Each container is approximately 8 feet wide, 40 feet long and 9 feet high, and will be fabricated off site for its intended use on the school’s campus.  Ajax will be responsible for the site work required, coordinating the installation of the containers, as well as utility hook-ups and other ancillary finishes needed to bring the classrooms on line.  The Research Center will include:

  • iTHINK Lab for Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering
  • iTHINK Lab for Inspiration & Design
  • iTHINK Lab for Biomedical/Student-Led Research
  • Collaboration Courtyard and Outdoor Classroom Space

This learning center will house upper school state of the art STEM labs, college counseling services and guidance offices, flexible space for tutoring, a student union area for gatherings and academic and faculty offices. This multi-use building will the largest addition for Maclay School in decades.
