Built in 1989, DeSoto Trail Elementary School in Tallahassee has been over capacity for some time and badly in need of updates. New classrooms were constructed and greatly relieved the overcrowding by removing kids from portables and defining new permanent space.
The new 2-story addition includes two primary classrooms, two intermediate/middle classrooms, a science lab, an elementary art room, and a music room. In addition to this new wing, the school’s kitchen and cafeteria were significantly expanded to include new appliances, serving lines and hurricane-proof windows. Various site improvements were required to support the new wing and the renovations.
The project did overlap with the 2015/16 school year, involving careful coordination with the school to ensure a safe and clean worksite that also minimized any disruptions to the normal activities of the school campus.
