AJAX BUILDING CORPORATION HOLDS TOPPING-OUT CEREMONY FOR PASCO COUNTY’S 1ST STEM MAGNET SCHOOL

Ajax Building Corporation joined Pasco County Schools in a January Topping Out ceremony to celebrate the last beam being placed on the county’s first STEM magnet school.

The $21 million project is a full renovation of Sanders Memorial Elementary School, scheduled to open in August and accommodate 762 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The Land O’Lakes school will emphasize science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.

Attendees included Pasco County School Superintendent Kurt Browning and School Board Member Joanne Hurley. A lunch was held to thank Ajax subcontractors who have finished the structural work — erecting steel, pouring concrete and laying block.

Williamson Dacar Associates designed the project to foster collaboration between students and teachers, allowing spaces to be opened up between classrooms to form pod settings. Click here for a quick animation of how the school will look.

In addition to classrooms, multiple buildings are being renovated, including the Administrative Suite and Media Center. It will be a LEED certified project, incorporating new sustainable designs, technology and construction methods.

Ajax also is renovating one of the Pasco County District Office buildings. The $5.5 million project, which includes an addition, is being done in three phases to ensure minimal disruption of staff and should be completed in January 2016.
